Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay: A Hard-Fought Point Each in Miami

Saudi Arabia 1–1 Uruguay | Group H | Hard Rock Stadium, Miami

Saudi Arabia and Uruguay played out a competitive 1-1 draw in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H opener on June 15 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Uruguay started brighter, carrying the quality and composure you'd expect from a side loaded with experienced top-flight players. They took the lead and looked set to claim all three points.

However, Saudi Arabia showed the same fighting spirit that shocked the world at Qatar 2022, battling back to equalise and deny the South Americans a winning start to the tournament.

The point leaves both teams in a tricky position in Group H, where Spain — held to a surprising 0-0 draw by Cabo Verde — also failed to hit the ground running. This sets up a wide-open group with everything still to play for heading into Matchday 2.

Saudi Arabia face Spain next, while Uruguay take on Cabo Verde — two matches that could go a long way to deciding who qualifies from this fascinating group.
